Biography

Fernando E. Vilella-Hernández, MD, FAAOS, is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in orthopaedic trauma, as well as joint replacement and reconstruction of the hip and knee.  Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Dr. Vilella- Hernández graduated in 1999 from the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine.  He completed his research fellowship, internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Puerto Rico and affiliated hospitals.  He completed an AO Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship at Temple University in Philadelphia.  He has been a full time faculty member at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine since 2007.  His clinical interests include orthopaedic trauma, pelvic and acetabular fractures, post traumatic reconstruction, periprosthetic fractures as well as primary, complex, and revision hip and knee replacements, and the use of joint replacements in acute trauma.

El Dr. Fernando E. Vilella-Hernández, MD, FAAOS es un cirujano ortopédico especializado en trauma ortopédico y cirujía reconstructiva de reemplazos de cadera y rodilla.  Oriundo de San Juan, Puerto Rico, el Dr. Vilella-Hernández de graduó en el 1999 de la Escuela de Medicina de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Ciencias Médicas.  Completó un año de investigación, su internado, y su residencia en el programa de Ortopedia de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, y sus hospitales afiliados.  Su entrenamiento de subespecialización lo completó en la Universidad de Temple en Filadelfia.  El ha sido facultad, a tiempo completo, de la Escuela de Medicina de la Universidad de Miami desde el 2007.  Sus intereses clínicos incluyen el trauma ortopédico, fracturas de pelvis y acetábulo, reconstrucción post traumática, fracturas periprostéticas, asi como remplazos primarios, complejos, y revisiones de cadera y rodilla, y el uso de remplazos en trauma ortopédico agudo.
