Bascom Palmer Executive and Miller School of Medicine Honored with Excellence in Health Care Awards

Michael Gittelman, hospital administrator of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, was named CEO of the Year at the South Florida Business Journal’s annual Excellence in Health Care Awards, presented October 6 at the Westin Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine was named Employer of the Year. The Excellence in Health Care Awards honor health care businesses in the South Florida community that impact patient care, medical research, innovation, outreach, and service to the poor and uninsured.
“The dedicated faculty and staff of Bascom Palmer share in this award as well,” said Gittelman. “Together, they make up an exceptional team of which I am proud to be part. On behalf of all of us at Bascom Palmer, I extend congratulations to the University of Miami, and to all of this year’s honorees.”
Gittelman was nominated based on his proficient and impressive track record regarding outstanding managerial leadership at Bascom Palmer. His guidance and foresight have been integral in helping Bascom Palmer achieve the prestigious ranking of the number one eye hospital in the nation for the last eight consecutive years, as published each year in the “Best Hospitals” edition of U.S. News & World Report.
